Groove Design Suggestion for PTFE O-Rings
PTFE O-Ring grooves are similar to those of rubber O-Rings except that due to the relative stiffness of the material, less squeeze is applied. The groove width is also generally less since PTFE O-Rings are much less likely to roll in reciprocating applications than their elastomeric counterparts. A surface finish or 16 rms or less is ideal, however rougher surfaces are acceptable if a shorter seal life is acceptable. A radius of .005” is advisable on the groove corners.
