BUFFER

Buffer seals are designed to protect rod seals from pressure spikes. A buffer seal's channels allow fluid to flow around the buffer seal under normal operating conditions. In the event of a surge in hydraulic pressure, the channels "bottleneck" the applied pressure and in the process, prevent the spike from reaching the rod seal.
